The Most Magnificent Pillowcase : standard 1-1/2 yd. for body of the case 1/2 yd. for the hem band 1/8 yd. for the trim For each pillowcase: Cut body fabric to 27" Cut trim fabric to 1-1/4" Cut hem fabric to 9" Press trim in half lengthwise wrong sides together. Layer body right side up, trim (folded in half)raw edge on the raw edge, and hem right side down. Stitch across these three fabrics (four layers) – with a 1/4" seam. Press raw seam edge toward hem fabric. With WRONG sides together, stitch long side of case matching trim seam and fold. Press. Trim seam to 1/8". Turn wrong side out (right sides together) & press. Stitch across side enclosing 1/8" seam. This is a french seam. Repeat seam across end. (steps 5, 6, 7 &8) Fold hem edge 1/2" to inside enclosing raw edge. Fold hem to inside – Machine or hand hem in place. Repeat for second case!
