Machine and Hand Sewing For Teens July 17-21 2-5 pm

Learn to use a sewing machine and get lots of information on fabric, patterns and notions.   You will learn to make a pillow with a zipper, a tote bag, and a pillow case.  You will also pick up some basic survival skills such as sewing on a button, hemming your pants, and mending tear.  Basic hand embroidery will finish out the week with the embellishment of your pillow case.   

There will be loads of encouragement and tons of inspiration!!!  Come enjoy a fun crafty week with lots of completed projects to take home.  Our class size is limited so that you will receive lots of individualized attention.

Supply List

Bring pins, rotary cutter, thread to match your fabric, scissors, and needles.  We have pins and some threads and scissors to use, but you might want to bring your own just for convenience.  Our cutting table is covered by mats for rotary blade use.
 

  • 1/2-2/3 yard of quilting cotton for pillow depending on size of final pillow (18x18, 20x20, 24x24)
  • Pillow form  Esther's has feather and down pillow forms as well as polyfill.
  • 14-18" zipper to match your fabric
  • 2/3 yard of cotton for pillow case
  • 1/3 yard of contrast fabric for cuff of pillowcase
  • 3" of accent fabric 
  • 1 and 3/4 yard of toweling fabric for making two tea towels
  • Canvas for making a tote, yardage depends on size of tote, Esther's staff is happy to help with your selection 
  • Cotton webbing for handles, again yardage depends on tote size and how you want to carry your tote.  We are happy to help you select the correct size and amount.
  • We have embroidery thread, although you may need to purchase some if there is a different color that you desire from what we have in our stash.

You enjoy a one time 10% discount on class purchases.  Esther's staff are ready to help you make your purchases before the class begins.  It is best to purchase the fabric ahead of time so that you can take it home and prewash it.

Minimum Class Size:  There must be at least four people signed up for the class for it to proceed.  We will let you know 24 hours in advance if we do not have enough people and will give you an opportunity to sign up for an alternative class.  

Cancellations:  You may cancel a class up to 7 days before the class begins.  However, less than 7 days will forfeit their class fee unless we can fill the spot from a waiting list, or you can send a friend.
